Unleash Vista

VISTA - New Features and Capabilities

Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system is designed to give you to get better results in less time. To help make that a reality, Microsoft is introducing extensive support for pen and touch input within Vista. Wacom works in partnership with Microsoft, and other hardware and software developers, to develop features and capabilities like these to help you.

Take notes quickly with Microsoft Journal.
Microsoft Journal is an application included in Vista that allows you to keep a journal of handwritten notes that are instantly searchable. Without a pen, you will be unable to access Journal within Vista.

Exploring handwriting recognition.
Vista introduces intelligent handwriting recognition as a natural supplement to keyboard input. This new recognition technology efficiently and accurately converts a wide variety of handwriting styles into typed text. Handwriting can be used to quickly enter information anywhere that the computer accepts typed input.

Navigate using gestures and flicks.
There are a variety of pen gestures available within Vista that allow you to navigate faster and that greatly enhance the overall computing experience. Flicks offers eight customizable gestures with actions that you determine and Scratch Out lets you delete text by simply scratching your pen over the targeted text.

Use digital inking in Office 2007 applications.
Microsoft Office 2007 and a Wacom pen offer new capabilities that allow you to work more naturally and efficiently. Within Vista, Office 2007 applications such as Word®, Excel®, Outlook®, PowerPoint®, and OneNote® all support digital mark-up with a Wacom pen and provide easy access to digital inking tools for intuitive collaboration.

Access pen controls easily with TIP.
The Tablet Input Panel (TIP) allows you to handwrite text with your pen and convert it to text. By default, it runs automatically and is docked in a minimized state on your desktop so that you can access it easily whenever you want to input text manually. The TIP can also be opened by clicking on the small icon that appears whenever your cursor is in a text input field.

Get on track with interactive training.
Vista comes with an interactive training application that provides a good overview of using a pen with Windows Vista to navigate, perform mouse clicks, and to supplement the keyboard for text input. While using a pen directly on the screen of a pen tablet or an interactive pen display is slightly different than using a pen tablet, the concepts of pen computing addressed in this training is applicable to both types of experiences.
